We are planning to go Spain(northern Spain) in august. Family of 4 with 2 6&8 yrs olds. Would you recommend we fly in to Madrid or Bilbao? We will rent a car somewhere. And fly back from Barcelona.

Do you wish to spend time in Madrid? Or just thinking of using it’s airport? If focusing on the Basque areas, then fly into Bilbao.

Is Madrid a must visit place? We are flexible. I love country side and was thinking if we can save / days by skipping Madrid.

This seems to be a near duplicate post on OPs part.
If the goal is the north then flying on the same ticket there would certainly be easier.
