Flower Festival in Girona

I wasn't sure I was going to be able to pull it off, but I've contorted my itinerary so I can hit the flower festival this week in Girona. I currently have Thursday or Friday available, though if there is a compelling reason to do so, I could probably add one night to my hotel reservation (in Figueres). However, the weather forecast indicates considerable rain on Friday and Saturday, so I think tomorrow (Thursday) makes sense. I'll use the rainy Friday to go to the Dali Theatre and Museum and see a bit of Figueres. I plan to stop by the Dali site late this afternon to get a ticket.

I've done some quick checking on-line about the flower festival but mainly see generic comments about flowers everywhere. Will I be OK if I just walk around the historic district, or is there something else I should particularly look out for? I know there are some musical and gastronomic activities, and I'll check to see whether the tourist office has a leaflet detailing those, but my main reason for this stop (which requires traveling from Teruel to Figueres, back south to Reus and then on to France) is to overdose on flowers and see the historic area again.

Thanks for any tips you have.

Hi Anne, just walking around the historic district will indeed make your day and you'll see plenty of what Temps de Flors is meant to be.

  • Firstly.... flors = flowers in Catalan.
  • Here you have a PDF plan of the places showing the displays. You can download it to your phone.
  • Here the website of Temps de Flors, with plenty other information: markets, special events, etc.
  • Here the list of the restaurants in Girona that participate in the Gastroflors, a gastronomic fair within Temps de Flors. Edible flowers are part of some of their dishes during this week.

If anything, EXPECT CROWDS, that's the penalty for becoming a beloved festival.

Enjoy!

PS: Your overdose on flowers mylady: https://www.flickr.com/photos/girona_cat LOL!

Thanks tons, Enric. I figured the information was on the web somewhere but couldn't find it quickly.

I decided getting to Girona before Saturday--in hopes of somewhat lower attendance by locals during the week--was worth the extra train time. In any case, I figure it can't be worse than the Picasso Museum!
