We will be taking a cruise from Barcelona to Portugal in 2027. Should we fly to Madrid and take a train to
Barcelona or fly to Barcelona and visit Madrid after we arrive in Portugal? I have been to Madrid once
but hoped to return for a few days with my husband.
You don’t say where in Portugal the cruise ends.
If you’re intent on visiting Madrid, prior to Barcelona would be better, unless you’re flying back from the cruise from Madrid. In that case, fly into Barcelona and after the cruise fly from wherever in Portugal to Madrid.
I would fly into Madrid and see the city, then train to Barcelona and spend time there before your cruise to Portugal. This plan avoids backtracking.
Agree with the previous posters. If you wish to see Madrid, along with Toledo and Segovia (recommend day trips), then plan 4 days in Madrid, then train to Barcelona.
Four days in Madrid INCLUDING day trips to Toledo and Segovia?
So that leaves only two days in Madrid (??)
Definitely not enough to get even a surface feel of the city.
I guess it's good if you only want to visit two major museums and see the Plaza Mayor, but I'd certainly try to spend more time, if possible.
