Hi, We are planning a 38 day adventure starting in Amsterdam prior to our June Basque tour next year. I would like some advice about return flights without lots of stops from that area of Bilabo. Fly from Madrid/Barcelona to San Francisco? Fly back to Paris and non stop home? Any suggestions welcomed.
Thank you
Kathy
We decide by schedule, price, and airline. You are lucky to be able to have so few flights to get home.
Bilbao is the largest airport in Spanish Basque region. We use Google Flights and Skyscanner to do our research and book directly with airline.
A quick look at expedia shows a selection of one-stop choices from BIO to SFO.
Just a matter of where in Europe you make the stop.
Amsterdam ( Delta/KLM ) and Frankfurt( Lufthansa) look to have the most reasonable layover times.
If you are interested in a stay in Portugal post Basque Tour, there are (were) non-stops from Lisbon to SFO on TAP airlines. I have flown from Bilbao to Lisbon on TAP - it is (was) a twin engine prop plane - very enjoyable. (I have also taken the Basque Tour - a truly wonderful experience with first rate tour guides!)
Only having 13 airports open for incoming international flights plays
havoc on trying to schedule a trip.
This hasn't been the case since September 2020 -- there are no longer any formal COVID-specific restrictions on inbound international flights going into certain airports. (AA is certainly operating flights from London and Jamaica into Philadelphia, United flights from Mexico into Denver, etc.)
Thank you everyone for your input. I'll look into the information you all gave me. Have a good day!
When I took the Basque tour, I flew from Bilbao to London on a separate one-way ticket, stayed in London for a few days, and then flew from London to the US.
