I'll be in Seville next week and would like to go to a Flamenco show. Is it best to reserve a ticket in advance? Any recommendations on best places to go for a show?
I go to Carbonara when in Seville, go early to get a good seat, no reservations required. So much fun. J
I would reserve in advance. Why wouldn't you?
I would recommend La Carbonería for two reasons. The first is obvious: Flamenco is wonderful to see -- in Chicago, there's a professional flamenco company whose performances I attend frequently.
The other is that I took four years -- two in high school, two in university -- of Spanish but I'm in my upper 50s and have forgotten about 85% of the language. When I went to buy a ticket at La Carbonería in 2013, I used my pidgin Spanish to make the transaction. The man selling tickets was so impressed that an obvious American -- nasally accent, blonde, blue-eyed -- did the transaction in "Espanol malo" (poor Spanish) that he gave me a 50% discount on the spot. It wasn't about the discount. I appreciated his appreciation.
I would like to give you a recommendation on where not to go in Sevilla. When we were in Sevilla last April , we made reservations through Viator for Tablao El Arenal. The food was excellent but there was too much of it. The only performer who was any good was the guitar player. The singers couldn't sing and the dancers left a lot to be desired.
