We will be traveling by train to Barcelona arriving around 6pm on a Saturday in May. Going on a RS tour starting the next day (Sunday). Probably won't make to our hotel (Hotel Granvia, located about halfway between La Sagrada Familia and the Gothic Quarter) till about 7pm. Any recommendations on where to eat that night within walking distance of the hotel? We don't mind walking a bit as we will have been on the train all day. I hate to wander aimlessly that first night.....we can (and will) end up doing that later in the week! Thanks.
We had a very nice dinner at Los Caracoles.

From your hotel, walk across Placa Catalunya, then down La Rambla to about 2 blocks past the Liceu Metro stop, hang a left into Placa Reial, then one block down the street from the far southeast corner of the placa, (C/ del Vidre). You enter through the kitchen.
We had dinner at El Quatre Gats in the Barrio Gothic, which not only has history with Picasso, but the food is good too. Reservations required.

We also ate dinner at Las Caracoles, which was good. Reservations required. so I recommend either one.
“El 4 gats” is not too far from your hotel.
We had excellent food in Barcelona!! Highly recommend Bicos, Berbena, and Sensi Tapas. All of these require reservations and would be a bit of a walk from your hotel.

No worries, in Spain we don't start dinner until 9 pm at the earliest, so no rush. Just down the street from your hotel is El Corte Inglés, Spain's upscale department stores. At the bottom floor is a food market at the top floor a fast/casual restaurant with excellent views. You can probably eat there at the earlier time that you are used to in the USA. Afterwards, for excellent "late nite" churros with hot chocolate I suggest the nearby Churrería Laietana.
