Ripoll is an attractive town that I had no intention of visiting but got to see when my intended bus back to Girona simply did not show up. On a Sunday. I was later told that demand for bus service in that rural area is very light on Sunday; that may be why the bus didn't materialize. I guess that's one way to align the supply with the demand, but it's not so great when you're the passenger sitting at the bus station, being told for an hour or two that the bus is delayed, and then that it isn't coming at all.
I think there is clearly some risk in attempting that trip by bus on a Sunday. I paid for two hotel rooms that night and was lucky to find one at the last minute in Ripoll.
Rome2Rio is laughably inaccurate very, very often. I find it can usually be relied on to indicate whether a particular form of transportation is available between two towns, but you absolutely cannot trust the travel times, frequencies or fares it gives you. You have to dig for the name of the company operating the transportation and go to its website for--one hopes--reliable schedule info.
However, I think there may be rail service via the Catalan local trains called Rodalies. Line R3 appears to operate from Ripoll to Barcelona-Sants on Sunday. For whatever reason, Renfe doesn't integrate those schedules into the database used for schedule inquiries on its main web page, so it looks as if Ripoll doesn't have any train service.
