We are traveling to Spain in March... Will be renting a car in Granada. Plan to leave early in the morning, drive to Ronda, spend several hours there and then drive to Arcos de La Frontera where we will spend the night.
Any advice on hill towns/ spots to stop in between Granada and Ronda, or between ronda and arcos?
Any advice on parking (other than to park below Arcos)?
From there we will be splitting with friends-they will be off to visit family, we will leave arcos-bus to Jerez-train to Seville.
Any tips or advice for this route are appreciated!
Thank you very much!
Are we talking 3 days all up ??
Day #1 - Leave Granada early in the morning, drive to Ronda to spend the afternoon and stay overnight.
Day #2 - Drive via Grazalema and Zahara to Arcos de La Frontera and stay overnight.
Day #3 - Continue via Jerez to Seville and stay overnight.
You could stop to see the prehistoric dolmens in Antequera. Other than that, I wouldn't stop until after Ronda. You won't know until you're leaving Ronda how much time you have left before you get to Arcos.
A recommended route from Ronda to Arcos is via Sentenil de las Bodegas, Olvera, Zahara de la Sierra, Grazalema, Ubrique, El Bosque, and Bornos. That's at least 2 full days. You have 4-5 hours, maybe.
@djp_syd, unfortunately, no. We will be driving from Granada to Arcos in one day and spending the night in Arcos. I realize it is a lot, and maybe we just stop at Ronda and then go on to Arcos and enjoy our late afternoon/evening there. Sounds like there may be little time to stop at others!
I think you need to allow 3 hours for the drive Granada > Ronda and 2 hours for Ronda > Arcos.
You will have a long day ...
08:00 Drive from Granada to Ronda
11:00 Sights in Ronda
13:00 Lunch in Ronda
15:00 Drive from Ronda to Arcos (maybe a quick coffee stop in Zahara)
17:00 Sights in Arcos
19:00 Hotel in Arcos
Thanks for the above replies. I have changed our plans-we will stay in Ronda. Drive to Zahara to visit but spend the day and stay overnight in Ronda, then take the train to Seville from there. Thanks for making me see the day was too much!
What about keeping the car until Sevilla ? Just omit Arcos-Jerez
Day 1 - From Granada to Zahara de la Sierra or Grazalema, then Ronda for the night
Day 2 - To Sentenil de las Bodegas or Olvera before driving on to Sevilla and returning the car
Thanks for advice David! unfortunately we are splitting with our friends as they will be driving to meet up with family in Gibraltar so we will need to take the train to Seville.
we are planning on driving from Granada to Zahara and possibly grazalema and then go to Ronda for the late afternoon/ evening , spend the night and spend the morning there and head to Seville in early afternoon.
Have you been to here? Does that sound reasonable to you?
I wish we had more time to explore in this area!
We drove to Ronda from near Granada, arriving at lunch time. We explored and then spent the night. The next day we drove directly to Cadiz, having no time for other villages either. We both have to go back some day then I guess.
