¡Feliz Diada Nacional de Catalunya!

Today is the 205th anniversary of the events in 1714 that are celebrated as National Day in Catalunya.

It's a mixed commemoration -- the end of a 14-month siege of Barcelona when King Philip V beat back the Hapsburgs, but the beginning of more repression of Catalan independence by the Bourbons

Nowadays it's celebrated by displaying the national flag and laying flowers to commemorate important military figures in Catalan history.

Thanks for pointing out the error, Bill - I was too quick on the draw,
and I also wanted to pat myself on the back for figuring out how to do the upside-down exclamation point :-)

Do you have any thoughts, since you were so good in your orthography, why people in California pronounce it as though it had a tilde?
