February trip, lots of questions

The plan is to fly from Bologna to Seville in early February, after spending a few days in Venice during Carnivale and then fly home 2-2.5 weeks later from Barcelona. This will be my second trip to Spain and I plan to combine new sites with repeat visits. My current idea is to start in Seville, visit a few places in Andalusia then go Toledo and then Madrid, then Barcelona.

  1. I'll probably rent a car in Seville, to revisit Ronda and spend a day in Antequera. Maybe down to Marbella. I've been to Jerez, Arcos, Cadiz and Granada. Any other suggestions? Probably head to Cordoba (by train) after returning the car (wherever), and from there to Toledo.

  2. How many days/nights in Toledo? First time. I'm thinking 1 or 2 nights, with a small overnight bag, leaving my suitcase in Atocha station.

  3. What do see/do in and around Madrid? On my list are the Prado and Thyssen-Bornamisza, the Maritime Museum (been to the Palace). Any other ideas? What about day trips in February?

  4. How many days in Barcelona? First time.

two nights in Toledo if possible. The night experience is completely different than the day time when the day tourists have departed.
Hostal Posada de Manolo, beside the cathedral is the one I will recommend. Have stayed there several trips...Great breakfast overlooking the cathedral also.

Feb,short days of sunshine to keep in mind as you plan your time.
From ronda to marbella is a two lane winding road which I would hesitate to travel at night. It does offer an excellent view of Gibraltar. Marbella is meh to me, but I simply do not have the pocket change to match up to that scene.
We have rented cars and bounced throughout andalucia with no particular intent and found quaint places for picnics, olive groves welcoming visitors and all sorts of wonderful folks. Not sure a car rental is worth the effort if just going from point to point. Your prior well informed posts are indicative of a traveler knowledgeable in using public transport, so I advocate use of the bus to get to Ronda.
Madrid means a visit to Retireo Parc for a pleasant peaceful stroll, even in the winter
Ah, Barcelona! Five days minimum. Ok, we are biased. Wonderful metro system.
Palau de la musica catalana. Check out their website. Take the tour, but check for concerts and strive to attend one (it is a bonus if it is music you enjoy, but experience creates a wonderful memory regardless of the tunes.
Montserrat for a day trip. Yes, it is winter; but still should be a wonderful experince.
The city museum of Barcelona is interesting and informative. It is in the center of old town and often overlooked.
I could go on and on, but will not bore you.
I hope Ed or Brad sees your request as they offer a great deal of experience for travels in Spain.
