Seniors (75+) just back from a wonderful active month in Spain (Seville, Malaga, plus day trips to Cordoba and Granada), thinking of next year, also for a winter month. No car, but want to keep busy and wish to avoid staying on any of the islands. Love to walk as many as 5+ miles a day to visit sites, stay in apt. in non touristy neighborhoods, eat locally, and enjoy the weather. Want 2 or maybe 3 places as a base. Trying to decide between Algarve vs Costa Blanca? Are we correct to think Valencia and Alicante give us more to do each day and more sites to see?
I’ve spent many months in both the Algarve and Costa Blanca. My family lives on the Algarve and I generally combine my trips there with a two to three week stay in Valencia.
For a long stay my preference would be Costa Blanca. Walking can be combined with what cities have to offer in regards to restaurants and other activities, however if you prefer breathtaking coastal type walks in smaller cities/ towns then the Algarve would be a consideration. A car is a necessity in the Algarve.
I travel over the winter months and find both destinations reasonably sedate in comparison to i.e. Andalusia at that time of the year.
