We're a family of four traveling to Barcelona for the first time next month. I'm baffled and confused with so many options as to where to stay. Does anyone have a recommendation on a particular apt or hotel that accommodates 4 people (in the midrange prices)? Which part of town is better? Thank you!
Our group tours stay near Placa de Catalunya, which is close to the airport bus stop and subway stop, and walkable to the Ramblas and Barri Gothic. I've also enjoyed staying "deeper" in the old town. Try www.hosteriagrau.com, which has quad rooms around 180 euros.
How long will you be there?
Our first lodging choice has become apts for stays of three nights or more. Advantages are more space, kitchen, better pricing and, we think, a better experience. Try Airbnb to find a taste of available options. The reviews are usually on target for the renters experiences. Landlords are motivated to please their renters due to the need to obtain excellent reviews.
We prefer to stay away from the main tourist zones due to being able to get better prices at non tourist area restaurants and markets. We seek to stay on at least the third level up from street noise, seek to have a terrace and always make sure the place has air conditioning. Barcelona subway system is great so getting into the tourist areas is ez.
We stayed in the Eixample area with Negre apartments, and had an excellent experience. We were travelling with teens and liked the area, we walked almost everywhere from there, but it was also very convenient to subway.
