We (2 adults and 2 kids of 5 ans 9 years old) will be in barcelona in July . We will arrive from El-Prat airport.
Questions:
1) should we stay 4 or 5 nights (we plan to go nothern spain and Portugal after that. We have 24 nights total)?
2) Where should we look to stay ? For now we've seen not too expensive appartments rental in Gracia and around Segrada Familia. Some in Eixample too.

If you will be arriving from North America then I would suggest 5 nights. It's good to have a bit of extra time at the beginning of your trip to account for jet lag. Especially true for kids. There's plenty to do for 5 nights. I was there last summer for 6 nights at the end of a trip with kids and found that a good amount of time.
I'd consider the eixample first. The other areas are good too but the eixample is a bit closer to some of the sights. Look at a metro map and see what stop is nearest your apartment and where that line goes. Someone with more detailed knowledge of areas can help more, id just suggest being near a well connected metro line.
We stayed at an apartment-hotel, Up Suites Bcn, in the Eximple area that was very nice.
I went on-line to get the information for you and discovered they have built a new building. It looks pretty nice and close to the subway.
I agree that the Eixample may have you closer to many sights in terms of walking distance, but do look at how the Eixample apartment is positioned relative to the nearest Metro stop(s), because you will almost certainly sometimes want to use the Metro.
The Eixample is a rather large area. Post the address here and we may be able to give more specific comments. And Enric certainly can, if he notices your post.
I dont have an exact adresse but, we maybe found an appartment that seems great, it's not far from the Sgerada familia and they say it's 5 minutes walk from Joanic metro station. any thoughts about this ?
