My husband and I are going to doing a walking/hiking trip on Mallorca with several friends in late October. We wanted to spend about 4-5 days ahead in another area of Spain or Portugal. We have been to Barcelona on previous trips so thinking Madrid,Valencia or possibly Lisbon. I think there are flights to Mallorca from these areas. Would appreciate any suggestions

What can we add to help you decide? All are world famous cities so all have plenty for 4-5 days. I would let the flights decide for me, as that is an easy thing to suss out!

I think that we are leaning toward Lisbon as it is easy flight to Mallorca. If having 5-6 days would be best to do Lisbon and Sintra. Or can you add Porto into the mix. We are active and want to do some hiking/walks and culture.

I'd post that on the Portugal page. With six, I'd say it would be tight but "doable" to add Porto, but I'd really want more time for both. Choosing one base might make it more realistic to get out for some hikes and such (I am unfamiliar with Portugal).
Did you check Malaga also--I think that would put you well placed for some outdoor excursions. Not sure about Madrid. Sevilla you could plan some excursions--maybe Doñana?
