Estimate time needed to pass through Customs in Madrid

Hello, we are traveling to Spain in early August and wonder how long it will take us to pass through customs at the Madrid airport. I know it may be vary depending on the crowd during that time. Any rough estimate is appreciated.

Also, I found that there are many restaurants close for holidays in the month August. Any advise where to find good/authentic place to have dinner for a night or two? We will be spending our trip in Madrid, Seville, Toledo, and Barcelona.

Thank you for all your help!

How fast can you walk 100 meters? That's how long it takes you to go through Customs in any European country unless you get randomly picked for detailed inspection. Customs is the inspection of your items you are bringing in. Just go through the green lane (nothing to declare).

If you are talking about Passport check, that can take quite a while depending on how many flights arrive at the same time and how many Passport agents are working at that time. I have not been through in Madrid, so I have no experience but Barcelona went quickly. Including my travel partner's baggage claim, we were through in 15 minutes.

Mark is right on. When we were there in May it took about 30 minutes to get through passport control. I was with the agent for 5 minutes myself because he decided he wanted to carry on a conversation with me once he heard we were going to his home town.

THANK YOU Mark and Jaime! This gives me some idea what to expect when we arrive in Madrid. We are going to meet family members flying in from different cities in US to Madrid. This will let everyone plan for their wait time.

Many thanks again!
