We have bought the extra ticket to the Royal Apartments. It is a timed entry for noon. The RS guidebook says that we can enter Alcazar at any time. Is this true? Is the entry time for the Royal Apartments?

I just bought the same tickets. The ticket states "For this visit you can access the monument from 60 minutes before until 30 minutes after the time indicated on the ticket" when I ran it through google translate. And to be in at the location of the tour 15 mins prior to your time for the Royal Apartments.
But, perhaps you can still enter earlier in the day? I would also be interested if someone had a different experience.

Haha I second that, Chris! I noticed our family lost concentration with audio guide in the museums and places in Italy and Paris too! I guess that’s the case in Spain as well.

My warning has more to do with the actual quality of this specific Artymax app. In the Apple App Store, it averages 1.1 star out of 5 for a reason. It just flat out sucks.
