electrical outlets

Hi,

I hope all is well.

I was wondering if I need an electrical adapter for when I'm in Spain?

Yes. One that says it will work in Europe with the two prongs.

I believe Spain uses the same Schuko receptacle that is used in Germany.

For devices with a grounding US plug (2 blades and a pin), this adapter will complete the grounding.

For devices with non-polarizing, two prong US plugs, you can use an adapter like this. This adapter is limited by code to devices drawing 2½ amps (about 575W) or less, so a hair dryer would not be appropriate.

If your device has a US polarized plug (one blade wider that the other), it should not be used in Spain. Important safety features which depend on polarized power could be lost.

Your device must also say that it accepts an input of 100-240V, 50-60 Hz.

I shall add that if this question is geared towards bringing electric appliances such as an iron, a hair dryer and the like.... simply don't. Why would you? unless it's very specific and/or expensive appliance you can simply buy one here for a few euros and discard it afterwards -less things to carry, right? Sample prices here to have an idea: http://tiendas.mediamarkt.es/pequeno-electrodomestico
