I found a website for a train that travels along the northern coast of Spain called El Transcantabrico. You can ride on the train with an all inclusive package with meals, drinks, tourist guides in places you stop with packages ranging from 3 nights to 7 nights. I was just wondering if anyone has done this and what your experience was like. It sounds very nice and could be a good way to enjoy a bit of luxury built into the total trip experience.
Jerry, do you sleep on the train or overnight at hotels?
I clipped an article about that train many years ago. I'm heading to Spain tomorrow, so I Googled for current information a couple of months ago. I don't remember the details, but the cost is very, very high. You sleep on the train. Many daily activities are included, including meals in fine restaurants. Sounds like it would be great, but it's not in my price range.
It is a bit pricey but it seems like it could be worth it for the short 3 night trip as part of an overall trip in Spain. It seems similar to the experience we have had on river cruising on the Rhine and Danube except by train. I am considering it for part of our itinerary for next year.
There is a Feve slow narrow gauge cheap train from Oviedo to Bilbao. I looked at last year but didn't end up taking it.
