El Escorial to Madrid

Hi guys - kind of a simple question but I can't seem to find any information online about it.

I'm planning on travelling to El Escorial as part of a Madrid trip in the coming weeks. I'm also planning on taking the bus from Moncola station, as it seems much cheaper and less of a hassle than a tour or the train. However, I'm planning on going on a Sunday, and I know bus times are much more limited on weekends.

Does anyone know the timetable on the #661 or #664 bus back to Madrid? I can't seem to find it online. Usually I would plan as I go but I have to be back in Madrid for a bullfight that evening and would rather not be late!

Hey Andrew,

The ticket from Madrid (A area) to San Lorenzo del Escorial (C1 area) costs €4.20. Make sure you take a bus to San Lorenzo del Escorial (the monastery) NOT to El Escorial. It is NOT the same place.

Bus lines 661 or 664 from Intercambiador Moncloa

the bus will drop you off at the terminal of El Escorial (Monastery), then as you walk out of the terminal, turn to the right and walk for about 10 minutes, you will soon see the walls and towers of the monastery. Look for the entrance and get your tickets, you will have to deposit your bag(s) in a locker before coming into the monastery itself.

If you have the time, perhaps you would like to extend your visit to the area by taking a look at the Valley of the Fallen.

And, if you plan to have lunch at El Escorial I recommend the following restaurant:
