Eating Gluten Free and Vegetarian in Basque Country

Looking for restaurant recommendations Basque Country ( Spain and France) where I can have vegetarian options that are also gluten free. I can also eat most fish, but not crustaceans. Thanks!

I think you can eat anywhere, being careful to avoid meat and gluten. There are tons of vegetable dishes in the Basque Country, and you can easily avoid the bread that pinxtos are sometimes "mounted" atop.

If you like fish, you'll be in heaven in that region.

Rather than seeking out specific restaurants, maybe you could make a list of pintos and dishes that appeal to you and conform to your requirements. List them, with their translations, and takes the list along with you.

For instance, one of the most popular pintxos in the Basque region is the Gilda--olives, a guindilla pepper, and anchovy: (Do not worry if you do not like anchovies..there are a ton of dishes with other fishes). Do you eat eggs?

In general you should have no problems find things you can eat.

Menus should come with indication of possible allergens. I will be in the Baztan valley this week (Navarra Basque country) and here is a menu I was looking at. Obviously they don't indicate meat dishes, but they do indicate plates sin gluten (gluten free), plates with crustaceans, eggs, milk, etc.

I am not gluten-free but otherwise eat similarly, and I agree you will have little trouble. I always check out cookbooks for a specific region before I travel so I know specific dishes to look for.
