Easier -- train or rental car from Sevilla to Madrid?

Hi. We will be ending our My Way tour in Sevilla, but need to get to Madrid where we will fly home from.

We have two days in between the tour end date in Sevilla (with a full day open to sightsee in Sevilla that day in addition to the 1.5 days during the tour). We will also have had one 1.25-1.5 days in Madrid as part of the tour. Another "Madrid day" while on the tour will be to daytrip to Toledo or Segovia.

  1. Should we spend one of the two days after the tour ends in Sevilla or Madrid, seeing that we will have already had close to 2 full days while on the tour to see both places? The second day will be to get from Sevilla to Madrid and then to a hotel, preferably near MAD.

  2. To get from Sevilla to Madrid, is it an easy drive? Are car rentals a pain? Or just take the train? We do not speak much Spanish (trying to get some refreshers, but limited Latin Spanish)

  3. Lastly, any hotel recommendations close to MAD? We have an early flight so no need to be in tourist/commerce area.

Thanks!

How about Cordoba? It is on the train route from Sevilla to Madrid, and it appears to not be included on the My Way agenda.
Of course you could fill the time in either Sevilla or Madrid, but Cordoba is lovely. No need for a car--there is a high speed train (and the drive to the airport is miserable I might add).
The airport is located in Barajas and there are plenty of hotels there.

Here's one of my travel rules.....
If you can get to your destination by public transportation, that is (always) the better option.

Thanks to both of you! Forgot about Cordoba (guess when I looked at the map again it would be obvious!), and figured train, but we have never driven in Europe... but why start now?!!!

Thanks!

Maybe next time--there are places for car travel, but this route is not it--and it is a pleasure to take advantage of good train service when one can.

With only 2 days, take the train.

If you had a week and wanted to visit some out of the way places not regularly served by trains or busses, then I’d say rent a car. For future trips, driving in Spain is like driving in the states. The cities are a pain, but the small towns and villages are fairly stress free. Away from the cities traffic is light. If only visiting cities and not stopping between them, a train or bus will usually be the best bet.
