Early June visits to Madrid and Barcelona

Seeking advice on quieter neighborhoods where I might book a comfy but not expensive bnb or small hotel for me and adult grandchild. Museums, walking, gardens. Suggestions for neighborhoods or specific accommodations (you can PM me). Thanks!

We like Hotel Europa when we are in Madrid. Nice central location and associated with a nice cafe.

For Madrid, the city center is bounded on the east by the Retiro Park and on the west by the Royal Palace. It will be quieter on those eastern and western edges, neighborhoods such as Austrias (near the Royal Palace), and Barrio de las Letras (near the Prado). North of the main part of the city center is a bit louder and quite lively (Malasana, and Chueca). North of the Retiro Park is a very nice, quiet neighborhood (Salamanca), but it's the wealthiest part of urban Madrid so hotels will reflect that. If you're willing to go a bit further from the city center, the Chamberi is a very nice, but more residential area that will have more reasonably priced hotels and AirBnbs, but you may need to use the subway more to get to museums in the center of the city. You could also look at the Atocha neighborhood south of the Reina Sofia, but it is a bit lacking in beauty and charm if that matters to you.
