Driving from Granada to Tarifa - Better route through coast (Nerja) or hill towns (Ronda)?

We'll be driving one day from Granada to Tarifa one day in a couple of weeks. Would people out there recommend taking the coastal route via Nerja and Malaga, or taking a route into the hill towns and see Ronda for a few hours?

Hope you have obtained your idp from aaa.
Ronda is worth the visit, the other route is mostly compareable to an interstate highway once you get to malaga.
