Driving from Granada to Ronda - two or three routes

We are planning on renting a car in Granada and driving to Ronda (mid April)

1) We have been looking at walking the El Caminito del Rey during the day drive to Ronda.
alternatively
2) We could drive south from Granada, to the Mediterranean, follow it west and then up to Ronda.
This is an extra hour driving time but we'd still have several hours for stops.
(two of us will have seen the Med. while in Barcelona but two others will have joined us by this time. I haven't read the RS book on any of these cities, the thought just came to me today)

There may be a 3rd option.

Does anyone have thoughts about the above?

I like option 1. After the Caminito, possibly stop in Setenil de las Bodegas for a short stop to see the buildings built into the cliff. It’s a short distance north of Ronda. Do some research on some of the other small towns along that route to see if any have anything to see you might be interested in. Should be fun.
