We are spending about 10 days in Spain and then want to spend another 4 to 5 days in the Bordeaux area....thinking we would just like to make the drive. It looks pretty and plenty of stuff to see along the way. Interested to know if this is the best option, and recommendations for along the way!

Where are you returning this car? If you rent a car in Spain and try to return it in France there will be a large surcharge. If you are planning to drive back to Spain, no problem.

I believe others have recommended taking public transportation to/across the border, then renting in France.

I'm with Chris... if you plan to return to Barcelona there's no problem.
Still, make sure your company "allows" to drive across borders with its cars as some companies do not -somthng to do with insurance I think.
