Driver license is ok for the Alhambra tickets?

Dear fellow travelers and destination experts,

I have already bought our Alhambra tickets.

I used our US driver license numbers and US ID numbers for our tickets instead of passport numbers

Have anyone of you used your US driver license? And if you encountered any problem when asked to provide your ID?

The ticket itself says "ID number/Passport number", so it sounds like any ID should work and ID in instead of passport should work too.

Thank you,

FJ

Didn't we have this conversation in another post? I already mentioned that the ONLY legal ID that's valid for US citizens over here is the passport. Period. Something else is whether using your DL, your library card, or your Wallmart membership card is or is not accepted by the poor fellow at the reception. It all depends on how strict is the policy at the place visiting... but the more popular, the more strict -if anything for security reasons.

"ID number" means the number of your Spanish (or other EU country) national ID card. For tourists from outside the EU, your only legally valid ID is your passport.
But, this is not the law, it is a private organisation. So probably, as long as you can show the document with that number on it and with a photo on it, you should be OK.

What exactly did you mean by "US ID numbers"?

I just used my credit card to get the tickets from a Caixa ATM in Granada. That was about 5 years ago and the website stressed that I would need the same credit card used to purchase the tickets in order to retrieve them.

I seem to remember hearing that the ID number may be for local tax purposes.

Thanks a lot for all of your reply!

I will treat any ID as passport.

Enric, thank you for for replying to this new post too. The other post I was inquiring about the ID number for train tickets, which I have not purchased. This post is about the Alhambra tickets I have already bought. In any case,
thanks for taking the time to write again.

You guys are just great!!!

Warmest regards!

FJ

Like Chani, all I needed was the same CC number as the one I bought the tickets with. That was in 2014.

They’ve changed the ticketing process in the last year or two. Now when you order the tickets online, you are emailed a PDF ticket file. You can print them at home or at the hotel; no need to collect them from an ATM with a credit card any more.

I don’t know about drivers license vs passport. In theory you are supposed to show your passport with your ticket at the entrances because tickets are not transferable to someone else; the name on the ticket needs to match your photo ID. We were not asked for our passports when we went last April, but we were with a private guide. I have read (can’t remember where, maybe TripAdvisor) that at least some people have had to show passports. I have not read about any experiences with other IDs.

DebVT, thanks for sharing of your experience. I went to the Alhambra website to fill out their contact form asking the same question too. But it seems if I used the English version of the webpage, entering the validation code always failed. Then I tried once using the Spanish version, and it was a success.

Hopefully they accept a picture ID. I also asked if there is a way for us to change to passport number.

Thanks also for your info about getting the tickets again or not. I have the PDF tickets, yet I wonder if I need to use my credit card to get it again when we arrive at the Alhambra. Good to know that we do not have to use our CC to get the ticket again.

jaimeelsabio, thanks for your reply as well. But as you can tell, the Alhambra has changed the requirements for the tickets.
