drive Sevilla-Ronda_Granada

Traveling to Spain in late Sept. Arrive in Sevilla from Barcelona via air. We're spending two nights in Sevilla. My original plan was to take the train from Sevilla to Ronda where we spend one night, then take the train to Granada where we spend one night before heading to Madrid either on the train or flying. I'm having trouble finding train connections on the Renfe sight, so I thought that maybe we could drive from Sevilla to Ronda, and then on to Granada. Can anyone provide some tips/info on that route? Worth doing or should we stick to the trains and/or bus? Easy pick up and drop off in Sevilla and Granada?

Tom,

I'm having trouble finding train connections on the Renfe sight, so I thought that maybe we could drive from Sevilla to Ronda, and then on to Granada. Can anyone provide some tips/info on that route? Worth doing or should we stick to the trains and/or bus?

You may travel from Sevilla to Ronda via 'Los Amarillos' bus:http://losamarillos.autobusing.com/

You can then take the train from Ronda to Granada. Keep in mind that the railway on this route is presently undergoing renovations, so when you book your train ticket, you will need to travel via bus from Ronda to Antequera Santa Ana station, where you'll transfer to a train that will take you the rest of the way to Granada.

then take the train to Granada where we spend one night before heading to Madrid

Just wondering... Did you already book your Alhambra tickets?

Since you've planned to spend only one night in Granada, does this mean that you will be visiting the Alhambra the day you arrive from Ronda, or the following morning before traveling to Madrid?

Enjoy your trip!

David,
Which site did you use to get that itinerary to pull up?

Tom,
The direct bus will get you to Ronda much faster than having to take the trains.

If you choose to take the trains that David has posted on his reply above, you'll need to transfer in Córdoba.

The reason you cannot find this route on the Renfe site is because there's no direct train route from Sevilla to Ronda.

When I check the Renfe site & choose, Sevilla Santa Justa to Ronda, this is the message that I get:

El tren consultado no se encuentra disponible para la venta en estos momentos, por favor inténtelo más adelante y disculpe las molestias. O bien no existe conexión directa (consultar mismo trayecto con transbordo)

Translation:
The train requested is not available at this time, please try later & we apologize for any inconvenience.
Or this direct connection does not exist (consult this same route with transfers)

In order for you to see the train schedules, for this route, on the Renfe website, you will need to click on the purple link (the sentence within the parentheses with purple font) which reads: (consultar mismo trajecto con transbordo)

My recommendation would be to take the direct bus from Sevilla to Ronda.

Here is the website for the direct bus :http://losamarillos.autobusing.com/

Hope this helps!

To get rail schedules for all of Europe, the easiest way is the Bahn (German Rail) website http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en, following Rick's tutorial: http://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/transportation/trains/online-schedules.

For whatever reason, the Renfe site does not list all trains when connections are involved. When I went from Toledo to Barcelona (always requires change in Madrid, but with frequent trains all day), Renfe showed only two options for the whole day! I ended up finding the trains I wanted on Bahn, then booking them on Renfe as two separate tickets.

Rail Europe does not list all trains, and often marks up the prices on train tickets it does sell - sometimes substantially. Unless you have a specific reason for using it, avoid it.

Off of the main routes, trains in Spain often require connections, so it be can easier and faster to take buses. The buses in Spain are much nicer than Greyhound, so have no fear about using them.
