Are shorts for men OK at La Sgarada Familia?
Skirts at knee OK for the ladies?
The website is vague.

Spain is less restrictive in their dress codes than, say, Italy. Dress appropriately for the weather, but I think you'll see everything. I wouldn't suggest athletic shorts or mini-skirts, but I wouldn't worry if a skirt was not knee-length.
Yes.
Yes.
From the official website: Visitors are asked to conduct themselves respectfully and dress decorously. The above advice is good.
... one has to take into account that while there's no doubt whatsoever Sagrada Família is a religious building, the fact it's also a tourist icon and the fact no masses are celebrated -that's done in a separate chapel next to the main building- has made the so-called "rules" less strict than in other churches in the city. The same advice above might not apply for a visit say to the Cathedral. In fact, the later has very strict rules about short shorts/skirts and bare arms (especially for women) and especially during the hours of 1 to 5pm when visits require a fee --hypocritically referred to as a "donation"-- and ushers are at the doors, both the main door and one of the lateral doors.
Thanks all. Indeed, e had nothing to worry about.
We just returned from Best of Spain tour. I was shocked at the complete lack of dress code in any church we visited, and we visited a lot. I always wore shorts. We saw women in halter tops and very short shorts. I asked the guide about it when we toured the cathedral in Toledo, and commented how different this was from our experience in Italy. He acknowledged that if there are any dress codes in Spain they are rarely if ever enforced.
I wore shorts all over Barcelona last year and never had a problem. However, I did see a girl get refused entrance to the cathedral because of the skin tight "Daisy Dukes" she was wearing if you know what I mean....
I wore shorts to the Sagrada Familia. I asked a docent a question and she did ask me to remove my hat-I normally don't wear hats and just wasn't thinking. We took a RunnerBean tour and went inside a different church and the guide provided scarfs for the women to cover their knees.

Why would you Steve? Our society is far more open than yours in this area. Topless is common in all of our beaches (without the need for "topless-only" areas) and so is full nudity in some of them. The "thing" about dressing in church is a matter of 'the' Church, if you catch my drift, but it hardly represents the values of this society -not in current days anyway.
