If you want good, cheap pizza and cerveza, go to Vesuvio.

Two of us had an individual pizza each and beer for less than 20 euros total. It was plenty of food, too. Order by number. Another good option is Mercado San Miguel. You can sample a lot of different things and enjoy the atmosphere.
We ate the sea bass (salted) last night at D'Fabula near Plaza Mayor. It was incredible / cheap (15€)...As was the Carbonara Pizza (out of place, I know, but after 3 weeks in Spain, a change is nice).
Los Galayos www.losgalayos.net was a favorite of ours in Madrid. The Beef Tenderloin comes with a very hot stone and you cook it yourself at the table on this stone. A memorable experience and very tasty. All the food we had there was very good. Service was great. We will always remember this restaraunt fondly as the place that my son first had beef tenderloin and fell in love with steaks. Would love to go back there someday!
We also went to Vesuvio Restaurant with my sister in August this year. It offers very tasty Spanish meals for a reasonable price. Plus, it’s a super cozy restaurant.
A second for D'Fabula. Close to Plaza Mayor but on its own little quiet plaza. If you are in the neighborhood early check out the leather store across the plaza. The restaurant is a gem. Do eat outside if the weather cooperates.
