Planning a trip to Mallorca later this year, but we wanted to tour the island by car to get around to see more places. Does anyone know of any legit websites that discuss the ins and out of fuel policies in depth please ? sick to death of stories of well known companies ( even those with lots good reviews) that poor folks find out only after they returned the car that they had some hidden charges and do not give the full refund. This will be our first time in Mallorca with a car. Any good experiences and websites welcome.
I’m not certain what exactly you’re referring to, but some companies assume you will return the car needing fuel, so temporarily add its fuel charge (whatever it would charge if you returned the car needing fuel) to the contract when you pick up the car. If you fill the vehicle with fuel, and the tank is full when returned, that charge should come off the bill. I always ensure it is removed before walking away from the return counter. I always get my hire car from Avis, but have never rented on Mallorca. I’ve never come across any hidden charges.
I hire a car numerous times a year throughout Europe. It’s usually cheapest to take the car full of fuel and return it full. I haven’t come across any hidden charges.
Don't mix diesel and gasoline when you refuel. Study the fuel pump symbols and use the correct fuel. For example: https://www.thelocal.es/20181008/what-you-need-to-know-about-spains-new-petrol-pump-labels
we had an issue renting a car - it was in Spain, but not Mallorca. We knew we had to return the car with a full tank of gas, but we didn't not know (we are fluent/native Spanish speakers) that we were required to provide a copy of the gas receipt from the places we got gas. So, keep the gas receipts, just in case.
Paying for the car full of fuel and returning it full does sound likely to be a good option to avoid hidden surprises later- thanks for that
'Avoiding mixing diesel and gasoline when you refuel', wow that is probably not included on the insurance- thanks for the heads up.
That is a good point as well about keeping your receipt as we did hear one report (albeit a while ago) about a company making this rule and demanding a receipt before confirming a refund. I always imagined that the tank being full would be enough?
Thanks for the website on fuel polices too. If you have any more informative websites to read, that would be appreciated also
You dont need to be concerned about getting your refund as long as you do simply stick to what each company requires. Simply choose your fuel policy up front
Keeping your full tank of fuel receipt has already been mentioned, but some companies dont care. However we just used firefly and they DID actually demand a receipt! No problem, as you as you know this up front! ( we didn't!) Read more here : https://uk.fireflycarrental.com/Advantage-Car-Hire-Fuel.html Old website here, but things arn't quite as 'hidden' now .
