Day Trips by Bus / Train from Seville

My wife and I are seniors and plan to use Seville in February as our home base for 7 days. (We'll spend a day or two in Madrid when we arrive and depart to make those processes easier.)

We'd like to do some days trips by bus and/or train from Seville to neighbouring cities and sights.

We're thinking Cordoba and Cadiz for certain, but what others spots would you recommend?

Thanks for the tips!

We did the same thing in 2023 and planned on a day trip every other day. I suggest going to Jerez along with cordoba and Cadiz.

Closer in and probably not needing an entire day are Carmona and the Roman ruins at Itálica. About the same distance away as Córdoba is Zafra, but definitely Cördoba over it if you can only visit one place.

+1 for Carmona and Italica. These are pretty close to Seville, and the two could be a full day out. We were there some years ago, but Carmona had a brochure for a self-chosen "Tapas Crawl", so if it seems to start early enough in the evening, and the transport runs late enough, you could do that for dinner (or lunch.)

We were underwhelmed with Jerez, even though we had pre-bought the horse dressage tickets. Had a car that day.

Interesting to read differing opinions. I've stayed in Jerez a few times and loved wandering around the town and visiting a sherry bodega. There are great restaurants, and it's probably the flamenco capital of Spain. My stays are up to three nights and I never ran out of things to see and do....

I'm following this thread, as we're doing the exact same thing this February and also looking for ideas and suggestions.

Me too! Going to Seville from Madrid in Sept 26. trying to decide if we do 3 or 4 days and then heading to Barcelona.
I have been reading blogs, so any info from anyone is always helpful.

There's plenty to see in Seville to justify 4 nights, as far as I'm concerned. However, you also need to consider how much time your personal sightseeing style needs in Madrid and Barcelona.

I'd definitely agree with Carmona. It is beautiful and, especially since it is relatively small, an interesting change to the cities you are visiting.

Each to their own, of course, but I think Italica is a little dull. To explain, it isn't as interesting as the "dead" Roman places in Italy such as Ostia Antica or Pompeii. Compared to those, I think Italica is rather "hum". But, if you've never visited the Italian ones, then it might be a fine morning trip.
