We're going to be in southern Spain in February. I'd really love to do a day trip to Tavira, Portugal from Seville. (Actually, we'd need to spend the night there since there's only one train per day between Seville and Tavira, and I'm okay with that.) Anyone ever done that? Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas?
Look at buses, not trains as there are more services. It’s about 3 hours each way, so a lot of travelling for a day trip. I haven’t done it as a day trip, but I have stayed in Tavira a few times - it’s a lovely place. The weather can be very variable in February.
The only "one train per day" that I find is a very circuitous route, taking 27 hours and 5 connections. There are no trains crossing the border in the southern part of these countries (and very few further north). Buses to Tavira and Lagos are operated by www.damas.es.
Yup, that was a typo. I meant one bus a day. :-)
Funny, we stayed a week in Tavira at a very nice Airbnb and took a bus to Seville...where we also stayed a night for a quick 2 day visit. Bus was cheap (don’t recall overhand) and pretty much on schedule. The bus stop in Tavira is extremely well situated..simple and enjoyable side trip for you I’d recommend.
