Day Trip to Segovia

Looking to confirm some specifics of travel for day trip to Segovia from Madrid. Not planning an overnight. Specific goal of trip is to see the Royal Palace at La Granja and tour the Glass Factory (my great-grandfather was a glass blower and worked on the Palace there). Based on my reading it seems AVE trains to/from Segovia are most efficient. I've read about the bus to the city center and then a second bus out to La Grandja.

As you might imagine efficiency is the priority as opposed to cost, at least for the getting there. If we have time for leisurely travel back to Segovia to explore the town in the late afternoon and then make it to the train station, great. Really trying to minimize the travel time to get there.

For those of you who have traveled recently, is Uber or a taxi an option? Any advice on how to make that work best.

Real Sitio de San Ildefonso (La Granja) is a 15-20 minutes car ride from the Segovia train station. Then there’s a 12 minutes walk from the bus stop to the palace. The royal glass factory museum is between the two.

The palace gardens are free to enter. To me, the palace isn’t overly impressive as one only gets to see a small section of it. Because of your connection to it, it should be more meaningful to you.

Since cost isn’t a factor and time is, consider a one day car rental. La Granja is only an hour’s drive from Madrid’s airport if driving via Tres Cantos and Colmenar Viejo over the mountain. In La Granja there’s a free public lot in front of the Parador, “Parking Parador de La Granja”. It’s between the factory and palace. If you finish with what you want to see in La Granja the drive to Segovia is easy.

If you had a rental car and if you went to Segovia proper, the highway back to Madrid is mostly a toll road.
