day trip to Morocco

I will finish Rick Steves 5/2/16 Spain tour in Sevilla on 5/15. Can I do one day in Tangier from Sevilla via Tarifa? And back to Sevilla for the night? Is Sevilla to Madrid via train and then fly from Madrid to US on same day too much or should I overnight in Madrid and fly home the next day? Thanks.

You can't roundtrip from Sevilla to Tangier in one day and you don't really need to return to Sevilla at all. Bus from Sevilla to Tarifa (http://www.tgcomes.es/index.asp) takes 3 hours but does not always connect well with a ferry on the same day. Ferry from there to Tangier takes about an hour with boarding time, plus there is a time zone change in Morocco. Another option would be to fly to and/or from Morocco. Flights from Sevilla to Morocco require a connection, but you can find non-stop flights back to Madrid from Tangier, Marrakech, or Casablanca; see www.skyscanner.com. I would plan to overnight in Madrid before your flight home.

Thanks. Skyscanner was hinting at a direct flight from Seville to Marrakech, but then didn't end up returning the results they hinted at. Day of week must have been the issue. It looks like Ryan Air flies that route on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

When I researched my first trip to Spain, I seriously considered Morocco. I learned that a day in Tangier is similar to a day in Tijuana from San Diego, or Juarez from El Paso. It's a border town, it's not Morocco (Mexico). So I'm saving Morocco for a "real" trip there. If you only have a day or two, go to Cordoba. The Mezquita should not be missed. Getting from Cordoba to the Madrid airport by train would take about 4 hours door-to-door, with a transfer in Madrid. If your flight home is late enough in the day, it's possible. Seville is another 40 minutes or so farther from Madrid by train. Most people would not be comfortable with staying that far from their departure airport. You could stop for the day in Cordoba on the way from Seville to Madrid. There is luggage storage at the bus station across the street from the train station.
