Me and a friend are doing a day in the Costa Brava area (we want nice beach, good food and drinks maybe a nice town to see). We actually don’t know where to go though I am understanding that “Costa Brava” is just a general area?
Which city or town should we go to that would be easy to get to via train or bus for a day trip?

We stayed in Begur, nice area, on the water. Also recommend Cadaques.
Tossa de Mar is lovely.
Tossa de Mar would probably be my choice. You go by train to Blanes (easy peasy) and then bus (15km) to Tossa.
There are more options, but this one is probably the one requiring less travelling time overall (from Barcelona).
You could also consider heading south along the Costa dorada, the lesser known sibling to the Costa brava. Take a look at Sitges, it's very easy to get to from Barcelona only 30 minutes by commuter train. I think it also fits all your asks.
Because you are going for a day, I recommend Tossa De Mar. If you were staying overnight, I would recommend Cadaques.
