I am traveling with my daiughter and niece to Lyon for the Taylor swift concert. I scheduled 4 day 3 night stay in Barcelona. I was wondering if a day trip to beach town, off the beaten path , would be worth doing?
When are you traveling to Barcelona?
In the summertime to be frank there are no off the beaten path beach towns in day trip distance from Barcelona, they've all been discovered by the tourist hoards for several years now.
Also you may not be aware but the whole region is currently experiencing it's worst ever drought recorded, so there are various restrictions on water use in place that are sure to only get worse as the summer progresses, for example most beach showers have been shut off.
Out of the summer tourist season most beach towns around Barcelona shut down.
I like Sitges. It's an easy trip out from Barcelona.
Even staying in Barcelona, the beaches at Mar Bella and Bogatell are worth a visit. Not off the beaten path in the slightest, but a good mix of locals and visitors. I stayed with friends in Badalona many years ago and it's a pleasant seafront area that gets you out of the hustle and bustle of the city a bit more.
I am traveling to Barcelona early June 3rd and leaving in the late afternoon of June 6th. Good to know about the drought. Thank you for the replies!
The city beaches in Barcelona from Barceloneta down to Mar Bella aren't the most idyllic, but there's safe swimming and some sand. There's bars by the beach at Bogatell with DJs in the evening that young people may enjoy.

Yes just be on the lookout for thieves and pickpockets, I've seen many foreigners get robbed many times while on the beach itself, and also the beach showers here will also be shut off so you'll have to wait until you get back to the hotel to rinse off.
Lloret de Mar and Blanes were (are?) quite popular with the British tour operators. I've never been, but they'd definitely be worth checking out. I have family who have been to both. May be slightly more geared to the British and German tour markets than Sitges, which i thought was quite Catalan / Spanish in its nature and makeup of who was visiting.
