Day trip from Seville to Tangiers

My wife and I are considering a day trip from Seville to Tangiers. We will have a rental car, so we would drive to Tarifa, park the car, and ride the ferry to Tangiers. I am concerned that this might be a little too much to try for a day trip. We already have a hotel booked so staying a night in Tarifa is not an option.

I would appreciate comments, especially from anyone who has seen Tangiers as a day trip from Seville. Thanks!

It's too long a day trip from Seville. Try to stay overnight.

One reason that it doesn't work by bus is that the first bus departs Seville around 9:00 a.m. to arrive in Tarifa around noon. If you were going to attempt it, you'd have to start driving much earlier. But I still would not attempt it without staying a night in either Tarifa or Tangiers.

Morocco is wonderful. Tangier is really not so great. Perhaps you'll be able to do another trip and have time to see some of the more interesting cities in Morocco, like Fes and Marrakech.

I agree with @acraven immediately above.

Going to Tangiers for a few hours is like crossing the border from San Diego and spending a few hours in Tijuana, then telling yourself you've experienced Mexico.

Morocco is a fascinating and enjoyable place to visit. It deserves more than a few hours dodging touts and carpet salesmen. The good stuff is not reachable by a ferry day trip. Give Morocco at least a few days, and fly there directly (and cheaply) from many cities in Spain, and across western Europe. It's easier than you think. You want a flight to Marrakech or Fes, not a ferry to one of the "bordertown" ferry ports.
