Day trip from Barcelona to Girona/Costa Brava?

We have 5 days in BCN. One half day trip will be Monserrat. We would like another full day trip. Could we do both Girona and Costa Brava? Is there a specific site in Costa Brava that would be interesting and how travel will work from G to CB? We will not have a car. This will be in early April.

you can easily take the train to Girona and it's a lovely day trip. suggest you take a walking tour there and don't miss walking up on the city walls. i visited the costa brava two ways: one was with a rental car which i found easy to drive, the roads are in good shape and well signed. i defer to the locals but I think that would be the best way to do both Girona and the coast. we also booked a private tour to the costa brava area for a one day trip with some family and they designed the day around our interests. we end up staying six nights in Calella de Palafrugell on the costa brava. very memorable and beautiful.

You can easily spend an entire day in Girona— it’s just fantastic. Public transit is skeletal and slow between Girona and the Costa Brava. So I would focus on Girona if you won’t have a car. With a car, you could first drive to Girona; then drive to Tossa de Mar if you get an early start in the morning.
