My 17 year old would love a companion to see the countryside. She needs ideas for an eventful summer and a chance to practice her Spanish. She is staying with family friends and is anxious to connect during her free time.

Lloret de Mar is a town with 40000 inhabitants, which has 7 primary/secondary schools and 3 high schools... I bet she can find plenty of local 17 yo to tag along with. One option would have been to contact the English teachers of those schools to sound whether someone at their classes would like to practice their English in exchange for your daughter practising Spanish with them... sadly, being now the holiday period, there's no more school.
But still, maybe there are other options:
1.) Facebook groups such as Sa Romana
2.) Lloret Town Hall activities for youth
3.) Lloret Town Hall sport activities
4.) One of the many associations in Lloret de Mar

PS: Ah yes, in the above links you'll find that sometimes there's no Spanish version of the website since the local language in Catalonia is Catalan -Spanish is co-official but not necessarily used everywhere. Simply use Google Translate. Yet tell your daughter don't despair, we all know how to speak Spanish -albeit many don't normally do as it's not our mother tongue.
