HI, I was wondering what is the best way to pre-purchase ability for the unlocked IPhone to be able to use data and local calls? When we went to Spain 3 years ago, we purchased SYMS card and just put it in after we landed. But it seems that rules changed and SYMS card purchased in US is not an option? What are the latest recommendations?
Buy a SIM card when you land in Europe. That’s what I always do. Now there are eSIM too.
what might be work out best for you is probably a function of your phone's model and your carrier's plans. Might should be able to get a card in the States but you might not really need it. Your phone might be able to program an eSIM or your plan might include international data, text, and calling services at no additional charge or a minimum surcharge for the dates you're traveling.

We are going to Spain in November. We plan to buy the Orange Holiday eSIM after we arrive. The 15GB will cost about €20. I think it is better to buy from a dealer close to hotel, so that the dealer can provide help with any activation issues.
I bought the data card from amazon here in US. but it says the validity is 14 days. we bought 30GB card as we will be there for a month. what are my options now? may be buy a new card after 14 days or top it off with more money i guess.
You can also get your eSim good for 15 days in Spain, with a Spanish number, ahead of time as an eSim and have it all set up ahead of time. No stopping at the airport and using vacation time. Good to go when you step off the plane.
