Cruise ship port in Almeria to Alhambra

We are coming into cruise ship port Almeria Spain on June 30th and would like be to see Alhambra. We are docked from 8 am until 10 pm.
The cost of shore excursion is ridiculously high. Any ideas for transportation, tickets and timing? Thx.

Asparagus,
The port of Armería is about two hours away from Granada.

Keep in mind that it will take time for you to disembark, wait for the bus, travel to Granada ( 2 hour journey), then take taxi from bus station to Granada city center, or directly to the Alhambra, eat lunch, visit the Alhambra ( 3-4 hours); then do all these steps in reverse to return to the port.

You don’t mention the price of the shore excursion, but by the time you add the cost of the bus, taxi to/ from bus station to Alhambra, Alhambra tickets, lunch, etc, etc, it may be worth it.

BTW, we paid around €10 from bus station to city center (for the taxi in 2015), so it may cost €15-€20 from the bus station to the Alhambra.

If you decide to plan this excursion on your own, make sure you book your Alhambra tickets now.

You can take the ALSA Bus to/from Almeria to/ from Granada.

Hope this helps!

Enjoy your cruise adventure!

I’ve not traveled to Almeria but according to Google Maps, it looks like
you’ll need to take a taxi from the port to the bus station (Estación Intermodal - bus and train station are in the same location)

As stated, it’s about a 2 hours drive, 104 miles, and all interstate to Granada. If the excursion is through the ship, it seems like the bus would be waiting and take you directly to the Alhambra. As a side note, there is a very nice castle/alcazar in Almeria. The market in Almeria is also worth a visit. Neither compares to the Alhambra, but would be alternate activities if you decide not to go on the excursion.

Our cost with the ship’s shore excursion was $160 from Malaga. I’m glad we used the ship’s excursion. as it was we were late getting back to the ship, but of course since it was the ship’s tour, it waited. You have plenty of time - our time in port was 7-3.

Thank you. We found an excursion company that has great reviews at a third of the price and they will pick up and deliver to the port. I really appreciate all your help. We dock at 8 am and leave port at 10 pm.

Just make sure your excursion company includes guaranteed Alhambra tickets. If they say something like "you have the option to see the world-famous Alhambra," but don't include guaranteed tickets, that explains the price difference. If they do include tickets, that's fine; then the price difference is due to the ship's markup.

Are you talking about June 30, 2018? I doubt you will be able to access tickets for the Alhambra by yourself on such short notice. This shore excursion might be the only way to get there. As mentioned, ensure that the third party tour company does indeed include tickets. We were in this situation back in May and ended up paying the expensive shore excursion (for four of us ...) as we were unable to find tickets any other way - and that was with 2 months ahead of the planned trip rather than 2 weeks. The third party tour operators were only willing to take us to Granada but had no tickets left.

We initially signed up for the Granada tour with the ship. They were not able to get tickets for an Alhambra tour until quite late. when the availability was announced at the first shipboard tour presentation, I rushed out and went to the tour desk to exchange my Granada tour for the Alhambra.
