Critique my Itinerary for Andalusia Spain

Hello Everyone,

I’m finalizing my itinerary for Andalusia, Spain, and wanted to share what I have so far:

*Arrive in Seville 4 nights in Seville (with a potential day trip to Córdoba, depending on how I feel)

  • Pick up a car and head to Ronda

  • 4 nights in Ronda to explore the white villages (Setenil, Zahara, Olvera, Arcos de la Frontera) and possibly do some hiking in Zahara National Park or along El Caminito del Rey

  • Drive to Granada and drop off the car

  • 2 nights in Granada Fly out of Granada

I’d really appreciate any feedback on whether this itinerary seems reasonable, well-paced, wise / sane. Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

I believe you are seriously short-changing Cordoba. A visit to the Mezquita is mandatory, and will be a highlight of your trip. There are other things to see and do in Cordoba, and it is a lovely and affordable place to spend a few nights. I liked Ronda, but 4 nights would be too much for me.

Another vote for Cordoba. It really deserves more than a potential day trip. There are a wealth of attractions, enough to fill at at least a couple of days. Brad

Based on our experience in 2023:

4 nights in Seville is perfect (recommend the rooftop tour of the Cathedral)
2 nights in Granada is good too
4 nights in Ronda is way too much (for us, 4 hours in Ronda was plenty; El Caminito del Rey was awesome; the nearby small village of Arriate is attractive, untouristed and has great food; driving through the white villages was pleasant and takes only a day; Arcos de la Frontera has great views but otherwise was not worth the effort)
Cordoba is a must do for at least a night (the Mezquita is incomparable, city is lovely, food is great)

Your basic plan is good. Just recommend reallocating time. Have a great trip!

Research what exactly you want to do in the white towns before heading over. Most only require a couple hours to see. Three full days is fine. Same comment about Granada. If you’ve never been to the Alhambra before, one could spend the better part of a day there. With only one full day there there’s little time remaining to see the rest of the city.

For someone who prefers nature activity, three days would not be too much for me at all, but we need to hear from the OP. If they were to arrive early in Granada on that first day, it might be sufficient for them. I loved Cordoba too, but I would not necessarily add another hotel change for it.
If you will NOT be hiking, then you could probably lose a day in Ronda, but I see nothing wrong with taking it slow.

Is Seville the landing point in Europe at the beginning of the trip, or are you arriving from elsewhere on the continent, with jetlag already in the rear-view mirror?

I agree that Cordoba is a great place to spend the night (or 2 or 3 nights), but you can see a good bit of the city on a day trip from Seville if that is your only practical option. I'd just point out that day-tripping to Cordoba means cutting Seville from 3 full days (which I think is a reasonable minimum amount of time for that city) to two full days--made worse if you may be fighting off lingering jetlag.

I enjoyed Ronda, but the town itself pales in comparison to Seville, Granada and Cordoba. As for the white towns/villages, you can cover ground in that area pretty efficiently with a car (which I didn't have). I, too, wonder whether 3 nights in Ronda might not be enough.

I'm also wondering about the timing of this trip. If you're traveling in the summer, you'll likely encounter really brutal temperatures, which might make hiking a rather unpleasant proposition, unless your chosen hiking areas are at altitude.
