Country-hopping in the context of Covid

Hey Stevesheads. We are vaccinated US citizens going in late April/early May 2022...

  • From the US
  • To Spain (via Munich)
  • To France (on a train)
  • Back to Spain
  • Back to the US (via Zurich).

And we're concerned about / interested in any and all restrictions, tips, etc. for traveling thusly during the (we hope!) waning stages of this pandemic. Does anyone have recent experience of doing same? I have read up a bit on vaccination passes, the need for a negative test result to get on a return flight to the US, etc., but would be extremely grateful for any first-hand experiences. From what I can tell, the Spain portion of our trip ought to be as simple as flying in, getting a negative test 24 hours before our return, and flying out. But given the layovers in 2 different countries and the train trip to France, I figure that may (or may not) complicate matters a bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated--thank you very much!

Just for clarification, is this your plan:

Flying from the US to Spain with a connection in Munich (so you need to know the rules for transiting in Germany AND the rules for Spain)

Travel from Spain to France via train (so you need to know the rules of entering France and sightseeing while there)

Travel from France to Spain via ???

Flying from Spain to the US via a connection in Switzerland. (Definitely need a Covid test no more than 1 day from your return flight.)

Yes, that is our plan! Transiting through Germany on the way to Spain and transiting through Switzerland on the way out of Spain back to the US. We will be traveling from Spain to France and back via TGV (and spending a few days in France, sightseeing etc.).

Thanks!

We often fly open jaw on our flights--into one city and out of another. We've found that backtracking to the city we flew into to fly out is inefficient and expensive. Even though we're looking for budget airfares, we refuse more than one stop flights going and coming.

We last flew into Madrid, took a bus to Granada and flew a budget 1 hour flight over to Barcelona. Then we took the fast train from Barcelona to Paris--650 miles in 6.5 hours. We flew non-stop back to the U.S. from Paris.

Hope you will have a great trip.
