Hi,
My family (4) and I have rented a condo in the Mija's Costa area for a week and will be doing day trips. We plan on going to Granda, The White Hill Townss, Cordoba, Sevila perhaps Gilbtaltor and Morocco. Do you recommend driving or taking the trains? Is driving the costal area is difficult?
Thank you,
Karlie
For the white towns and Gibraltar you’ll need a car. I’m not an expert on train travel, but others on this forum are. Driving in Spain is about the same as in the states. From Mijas, depending on where you’re going, is the AP7 (toll interstate). Closer to the coast is the A7 (interstate), and closer in from Fuengirola to Torremolinos is the N340. That will be a two lane road and will pass through every town. Since you didn’t say when your trip is, during tourist season that road will be very busy, so be prepared to get stuck behind trucks and tractors. It will take you longer to get to your destination. Off season you’ll still get stuck behind trucks, but there will be less traffic. The road from Mijas to Fuengirola, the A387, is also a two lane road. I always rent a car while others almost always use public transportation, so it’s a personal preference. All the roads in the areas you’ll be visiting should be in good repair. The roads around the white towns will be rural, 2 lane, whose condition will not be quite as good as the interstates or the N (nacional) roads. Since some will be in the mountains, they will twist and wind. Still an easy drive, just slower.
Were the answers on your previous identical question not sufficient?
Karlie -the coast driving is slow but certainly beautiful. We were in Mijas last year with a car and enjoyed all the hill towns like Frigliana and Rhonda. We did a combination of car and trains. The coast definitely need a car. Small is better, easier to park and travel through the villages. We took a ferry from Tarifa and cab to the hotel to in Tangier, Morocco ,glad we did. This would have been stressful with a car. Hope this helps.
