We're going to be in Barcelona for a week mid-September and then fly to Malaga and have 5 days in that area. We're thinking of spending 2 nights in Nerja, 1 night in Ronda then have 1 more night. After a busy week in Barcelona we're looking forward to a little bit of beach time, maybe a hike, seeing some of the white hill towns etc. on a slower pace. Would love recommendations on:
- hotels (we have 2 couples so also looking at Airbnb)
- would you do 2 nights in Ronda or a night somewhere else
- moderate hike in this area (4-5 miles)
- favorite beaches
Thanks!
We stayed at Hotel Del Pintor (which I feel like I found from RS or from the forum) in Malaga. It was right in town but quiet. Great breakfast at a place across the street (where I learned that the best toast is made on a flat-top/griddle/frypan).

Would happily recommend the Icon Malabar in Malaga as well as walking the El Caminito del Rey which was, for us, a highlight of Andalucia. We found Ronda super crowded and touristy but liked the nearby small town of Arriate. The Taberna Malacana there is exceptional. Nerja is very much an expat community. Malaga is a lovely, welcoming city and worth a stay.
