Cordoba Rainy Day Activities

I am going to be in Cordoba this week into next week and it appears a chance of rain is in the forecast. What are some good rainy day places to visit as backup to the major sites that are mostly outdoors? I will have a car for part of the time, so I am able to leave the city.

The Mezquita is indoors and the highlight of visiting Cordoba.

In addition to Nick’s suggestion, a little further away is Castillo Almodovar del Rio. You could visit the castle and ruins on the same day trip.

It was years ago, but we enjoyed the bullfighting museum. I assume it’s still around. If there is rain I doubt it would last all day.

As mentioned above, the Mezquita is an architectural and cultural gem, not to be missed. That's maybe 1.5 - 2 hours, all indoors.

Viana Palace is a mix of indoors and gardens.

But yeah, a LOT of stuff is outside. I might just suck it up. The maze of narrow streets in the Jewish Quarter may provide you with a bit of rain protection, too. Many are covered with fabric sheets so I'm not sure how that'd behave in a rain shower. Note: Driving around this area to find parking may be a bit nerve-wracking based on my limited time as a passenger.

From my pre-trip notes in 2019:

Palacio de Viana: Furnished 17C mansion with 13 beautiful patios and delightful garden. I don't remember how much of the area is uncovered.

Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos: 14C fortress with Moorish-style gardens and fountains and Roman mosaics. I missed this. I remember someone here thought the gardens were more interesting than the fortress, so I'm doubtful about protection from weather here.

Caballerizas Reales (Royal Stables): Horse shows, maybe 2-3 evenings a week, around 7 pm, lasting 1 hour. Don't know whether the seating area is open to the sky.

Archaeological Museum: Excellent collection including Moorish artefacts and Roman mosaics. Beautiful Renaissance mansion.

Plaza de la Corredera: Four-story, with porticoes. 16C (SE corner) and 17C houses. Daily market in AM.

Casa de Sefarad: Small Jewish-heritage museum. Worthwhile tour.

Sinagoga, Calle Judios 20: Medieval.

Capilla de San Bartolome: Gothic, first post-Reconquest church, built by Moors. Get key from University Dept of Philosphy and Letters reception desk??

Patio Leyenda, Casa de las Cabezas: Furnished house with four patios.

Casa Guadameci Omeya: Decorated-leather museum. Free because it is also a sales outlet.

Casa Arabe: Restored 2013.

Casa Andalusi: Restored 12C house, Visigothic basement with mosaic floors, gorgeous flower-filled fountain.

Museo Julio Romero de Torres: Single-artist museum.

Museo de Bellas Artes

Museo Vivo de Al-Andalus: History museum.

Centro de Creacion Contemporanea de Andalucia: Art museum.
