Cordoba on the way to Seville (from Madrid) or as a day trip from Sevilla?

We (3 adults) will be leaving Madrid on Sunday, March 17 (2019) by train bound for Sevilla. We have to fly home from Madrid on Saturday, March 23, so here is my plan:
Sevilla (3 nts)
Granada (2 nts)
Madrid (1 nt)- the Friday before we fly home

We want to see the Mesquita in Cordoba. Should we stop there on the way to Sevilla, stow the luggage and catch a later train on to Sevilla so don't have to lose a day in Sevilla to the day trip, or is the hassle factor with that such that it would be better to just get to Sevilla from Madrid directly and go the Cordoba as a day trip? Thanks!

That works if you just want to see the Mesquita quickly. The bus station across the street from the train station has luggage storage. It is a quick cab ride to the site. We did the same trip but stayed overnight in Cordoba before traveling on to Seville. There is a bit more to Cordoba than just the Mesquita.
