Cordoba day tour from Sevilla

I am tying to decide if it is better to stop over in Cordoba for the day between Madrid and Sevilla, or go direct to Sevilla and then take a day trip to Cordoba. (Visitours - 9 hours). We cut out the overnight in Cordoba to reduce the number of hotel changes (Madrid, Toledo, Sevilla, Granada, back to Toledo)

We are taking the AVE from Madrid, and I am worried about getting the timing right on the reservations from Cordoba to Sevilla if we do the stopover. Might just get the AVE from Madrid to Cordoba, then take the regional train to Sevilla, that does not require reservations.

Any recommendations?

Thank you,

Cindy

Can't say which is better but we stopped in Cordoba going from Sevilla to Madrid. Left luggage in the bus station across the street from the train station and took a cab to the Mezquita. After that we explored more of the city and had a nice meal. While I'm sure I would enjoy more time in the city, we felt we had done fine and saw the highlights on our list. I think we were there around 7-8 hours (from taxi to taxi.) I will add the one possible problem was that we got the last open luggage locker. It certainly would not have been fun if we were sightseeing with our luggage in tow.

It really depends if you have the time.
One option means your travel day is also your Cordoba day.
The other option sees a stand alone day for an excursion to Cordoba from Sevilla.
I would prefer the second, but probably not at the expense of something else on my itinerary.

We have four nights in Sevilla, so we would not really lose any visit to a major site in Sevilla if we made Cordoba a day trip. We would start in Toledo that day, and have to go to Madrid to get connections back south, so it would make for either a rushed day in Cordoba, or a very long day and late arrival in Sevilla.

Thank you for the responses.

I think you just answered your own question then Cindy. lol
Regardless of what was the outcome I would spend the whole day from Toledo stressing about luggage store in Cordoba. Get settled in Sevilla - have a coffee and pastry at La Campana.

It sounds like you are going from Toledo to Seville, not from Madrid to Seville. If that's the case, then I'd go to Seville and day trip to Cordoba, with or without a tour. It's too long a journey (be sure to leave enough time at Atocha to get from the Toledo train to the AVE, then have to deposit and collect luggage in Cordoba and still get to Seville for the night. You can easily visit Cordoba on your own by train and visit the Mezquita early, before the big crowds. If you have a choice, be in Cordoba on a day when there's a horse show at the Royal Stables.

I did this in october and it worked out quite nicely. I just made sure I had plenty of time in Cordoba and watched my time. Personally I don't like taking trains without a firm reservation in hand. But that is me. I also prefer the AVE to the regionals, but to be honest cordoba isn't very far from Seville anyway so the regional probably not too bad.

Personally about 6 hours was plenty for me in Cordoba. I walked from the train station down into the old area. Down by the bridge and to the cathedral. If you get a first class ticket you get access to the lounge so you can pad your itinerary a little and then just spend an hour or so in the lounge. If you like to go in the shops or tend to dawdle then I suppose you could spend more time, but 6 hours was enough for me. I didn't use any taxi's so if in a pinch that would have saved a little time as well.

Note on luggage:... I never figured out the luggage shops. But If you go to the bus station directly across the street from the Train station at the end kind of tucked away you can find a room full of luggage lockers. You need to first get a token from the machine in the terminal which is I think 4 Euro in coins. .. There were plenty of lockers when I was there. Worked quite nicely... I'm going back in a few months and will do the same thing
