I will be finishing up some work in France on Saturday, July 28 in Agen (between Toulouse and Bordeaux). I have a flight home from Madrid at 8am on Sunday, August 5.
My travel partner and I know we're going to end up in Madrid for a couple of days. We figure that we can probably visit one other city on our way to Madrid. MAYBE a day-stop in a third city if it is on the way, but not really expecting/planning/hoping for that. We are both fluent Spanish speakers, and don't mind ending up with a less touristy experience, as long as we will be able to find easy/convenient/affordable lodging and transportation.
So I'm looking for someone to convince me which way we should go...
1) via Barcelona (he wants to see the Gaudí stuff which I've seen; I want to visit the Picasso & Dalí museums, one of which is outside of the city)
2) via Bilbao/San Sebastián (I hear GREAT things)
3) Other ideas?
We can leave France via Bordeaux or Toulouse, or Paris...but if we do Paris we will stay to spend a full day there to hit the super highlights bus tour of the "must see" spots. Neither of us are completely on fire to see Paris, but if we're going there ANYHOW, we'll take advantage.
