Considerations for AVE from Barcelona to Valencia

Hi there!

Long story short (there's another post elsewhere on the whys), my family of 4 is arriving in Barcelona by air, on June 19th, then going to Valencia immediately the next day (June 20-23). We will take the highspeed train. (We may go to Sitges too, but I admit I haven't started the considerations or implications of that, just thought a nice beach day on our way would be nice). We will return to Barcelona on the 23rd and stay until the 28th (and then to Paris area).

There's about 30 Euro difference between refundable and nonrefundable tickets, so wanted to post here for thoughts before I buy (not sure I'm confident about nonrefundable, but getting a little frazzled by now with my last minute planning and the inevitable hurdles that keep popping up!)

Appreciate your thoughts, as always.

Last November we travelled the 3.5 hr train from Barcelona Sants to Valencia E-Nord non- refundable. No problems, in fact we always travel as such.

The fastest way from Sitges to Valencia backtracks through Barcelona, so that bit won't work. Valencia has a nice beach anyway, nicer than Barcelona, so you could hit the beach there instead.
By the way, planning for June isn't last minute 😉. Relax, you've got plenty of time to iron the kinks in your plans.
Can you even buy the train tickets yet on Renfe? I would be surprised if it were the case, and if you are not looking at Renfe then you are looking at the wrong place.

As mentioned there's no AVE from Barcelona to Valencia.

However there is the Euromed high speed train, that goes from Barcelona to Valencia and all the way down to Alicante, that's probably the one you're thinking about? It doesn't stop in Sitges, but if your goal is just a day at the beach Valencia has plenty of great beaches close by so I wouldn't worry.

Yes, I realized my mistake about assuming AVE instead of highspeed, but I appreciate you all cutting me slack!

I was thinking about skipping Sitges, but since it was in the RS book (but not Valencia!), I thought it would be good on the way back. Yes, backtracking. I hate it, but I've put myself in a corner, so just redecorating.

What's a great beach for my teen girls around Valencia?

Oh, I was on Renfe, so that's great news. There are four (I think I remember correctly) high speed trains to Valencia that day!

I was hoping someone might advise on the end train stop in Valencia, it doesn't look like it's near old town, but I assume (dangerous word) there will be other transport available from Valencia Joaquin Sorolla. (I didn't straight up ask this since I seem to always say the wrong thing when I think I know what I would like to ask!)

Thanks all!

I would love to say I know the answer but when I went from Barcelona to Valencia in 2022, we just walked into the city center. It was a hike, though, so I might advise a taxi for 4 people as long as you don’t have too much luggage. In our case we arrived to Las Fallas, so half the walk was sightseeing and entertainment. I see bus and metro routes, so the answer may depend on where you are staying.

Edit: I really liked Valencia and need to get back!

Well, Valencia! The beach is surprisingly nice and easy to get to.

Thank you all! the beach in Valencia certainly makes it easy! We're not huge beach goers anyway.

I'll check the renfe and see what it reflect (when I purchase tix) about getting to the Valencia del Nord...suspect it's just a commuter transfer!

Also, thanks for assuring me this isn't last minute. I'm just out of practice trip planning. This forum is really juicing my lost passion for travel!
